Search Terms

Back to Research

Research is takes time and lots of trial and error. The most curious are the most successful researchers.

Knowing what words to use to search for your topic is very important. These descriptive terms are the links between you and the information you want.

Every writer and creator of information uses different words that describe similar things.

For example: to locate information about a career in politics, you could try any of the following words:

  • politician
  • lobbyist
  • legislator
  • senator
  • govenor
  • congressman
  • recumbant
  • civil servant
  • and many, many more!

Begin listing words that describe what you want to know and you will begin to discover many good search terms and words. And, you may discover words to eliminate or words to use if the initial searches don't locate the information you need.

You may even discover more specific (and better) topics from your original one.

Allow yourself to adapt your topic to what you locate or find more interesting.
